Boat Lift Canopy Covers

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 2:58 pm

Boatlift canopies are a perfect alternative of covering your boats and protecting them against the elements of nature. Boats are a precious investment and giving them protection is essential to maintain their longevity. In fact proper upkeep can increase the life of a boat by up to 50%. While traditional boat covers, which include canvas covers or the ones made of polyester, do serve the purpose of protection but boatlift canopies have some added advantages associated with them.

The canopies are light in weight because they are generally constructed with aluminum. The unique features of the shape of boatlift canopies include the deep frames and rounded edges that give the boat a perfect fit. These factors ensure that the boat dries up after your tryst in the waterbe it fishing or swimming. Also, these canopies are completely waterproof and the welded seams with the double-coated 16 oz fabric provides an effective barrier for this purpose. This very essential for the upkeep of the boat, because once water seeps in, it provides breeding ground for bacteria, mildew and mort.

Boatlift canopies have bungee and safety hooks attached to them. Also, provided are the safety vents that prevent the ballooning effect and in this way reduce the hazards caused by the winds. This is because these vents allow the air to escape under severe weather conditions.

The fabric attachment is such that the canopies can be put or removed easily as compared to the normal canopies. Another unique feature of the boatlift canopies is their ability to adjust both vertically and horizontally to give the exact fit. To get the best possible canopy for your boat, it is best you measure its overall length and then add at least one foot of extra length to get the ideal fit.

You can opt for canopies made of aluminum. This, along with 16oz double-coated fabric provides the perfect foil to the harsh climatic conditions as also protection against the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Personal experiences at a public skatepark.

Vision this. You and your friends have been riding for about an half hour on your BMX bike or skateboard at the local public skatepark and suddenly a mini van pulls into the parking lot and out of a van, kids between the ages of 3 to 7 years old come flying out the sidedoor. They run past the playground and go straight to the skatepark, half of them riding bikes with training wheels and big wheels and the other half sliding down the ramps like a slide at the playground. You go across the skatepark heading towards a quarterpipe and attempt to ice pick it and you narrowly miss one of the little ones. The freighted lad or lassie runs off to mommy or daddy who is sitting on the picnic table reading a magazine, not paying attention to the kids, gets up and comes strutting like a rutting buck and proceeds to rip you a new one. After hearing a bunch of colorful words that would make a sailor blush, you exclaim that you are sorry and explain that it is a skatepark designed for skateboarding, BMX bikes and blading. The parent says it doesn’t matter, my kid or kids can go wherever they like in this park. They may even demand that their kids can use the skatepark for themselves and you can have the bank in the corner to ride. It is probably not hard to envision for most riders that use the local public skatepark on a regular basis.

After they are done at the skatepark, will the little ones go to the softball diamond and use their Tonka Trucks on the pitcher’s mound during a ballgame? Or play dolls in a horseshoe pit while some one is using the pits exclaiming the park is entirely theirs to use as much as everyone else? Of course not. Why do they try it at the skatepark?

After observing and being part of the strange and bizarre phenomena for some time, we came to the conclusion that either the parents and kids don’t really understand what the skatepark is really about, or they are looking for a free ticket to sue and using their kids to do it, or they really don’t care.

Regardless of the reason, the best thing to do is leave and ride street or ride your ramps at home if you have some. Leaving is the only way to win in a situation such as this. Maybe a sign should be installed on the skatepark stating “This Skatepark is designed for BMX bikes, Skateboarding and Aggressive Inline Skating”.

Fantasy Football Information: Winslow Could be a True Super Sleeper in 2005 Fantasy Football Draft

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 4:53 pm

The Cleveland Browns, on former boss Butch Davis’ watch, traded a second round draft pick last season, just so they could move up one spot in the first round of the National Football League draft in order to select Miami tight end Kellen Winslow, Jr. Davis and the entire organization took some heat for the move, which didn’t improve its standing when Winslow went down with a season-ending injury in week two, with a whopping five catches, 50 yards and no touchdowns.

You might think this makes Winslow very difficult to evaluate, when weeding through fantasy football information for your fantasy football draft in 2005. How does one measure the potential of a player who played in only two games and hauled in a minuscule five passes? Although it’s not an exact science, the answer is fairly simple. Treat Winslow sort of like a promising rookie, but keep in mind that he had a full season of rehab for his injury, as well as a full year of adapting to the National Football League. Also, in terms of Winslow, it’s important to note the arrival of a new coaching staff, one that will surely find ways to involve the talented tight end.

Finally, what few observers and fantasy football experts will notice is Winslow’s amazing athletic ability and raw talent. This guy may be the LeBron James of the gridiron. At 6-4 and 250 pounds, Winslow runs like most tailbacks, jumps like a world class hurdler, and is as strong as most linebackers. In just one short preseason and two regular season football games, Clevelanders saw frightening ability from Winslow, as he
dodged, sidestepped and often ran over would-be tacklers. Plus, he has a certain confidence that most young players lack, likely due to his great genes. He is, after all, the son of a hall of fame tight end.

Is Winslow an unknown and a risk? Yes. Is he worth a middle-round pick in your fantasy football draft? Probably, depending on how strong you are overall. If you have a good draft, heading into the fifth or sixth round, don’t hesitate. Winslow could have an Antonio Gates-type season. He’s this good, and you might just wind up with your fantasy football draft’s Super Sleeper.

Type in “miserable failure” in Google and see what comes up. I will save you time and tell you that it comes up at the official White House Webpage.

Yes that is the official web page for President George W Bush. So how did this happen?

Easy, by “Google Bombing” a website with the anchor text “miserable failure” a bunch of buddies got together and created a load of “one way” links to Bush’s webpage.

In simple English Google thinks that George’s bio page is about miserable failure and makes this their number one listing.

How can you use this to profit and drive more traffic to your website?

Without going into a large article or explanation when you link make sure the anchor text contains the keywords that you want to rank high for.

We want to rank high for “Internet Marketing Consultants” so we use this to as a link to direct users to our desired page.

Gift Ideas for Canoeing Enthusiasts

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 2:41 pm

Finding good Christmas gifts ideas is easy if you think about a person’s hobbies. If you are buying for person who enjoys canoeing, here are a few ideas for canoeing gifts.

Canoeing Gifts

Canoeing is a sport that appears to require relatively small amounts of equipment. In truth, it is much more than a paddle and a canoe, which provides you with a lot of potential gift ideas.

1. Yokes – This yoke has nothing to do with eggs. A yoke is a device that hooks onto a canoe to make it easy to lug it around. Typically made of wood, the yoke sites perpendicular to the length of the canoe and is padded. Easily connected to the canoe, the boat is typically flipped over to be carried by putting the padded yoke on your shoulders. A godsend for getting to and from the water as well as bypassing low water areas on rivers. A yoke will set you back in the $20 to $60 range. The Voyageur brand is a good place to start.

2. Handmade Wood Canvas Canoe – If you’re looking for a big ticket item, why not consider giving a handmade wood canvas canoe as a gift? Unlike modern canoes, these wood canvas canoes are made with painstaking care and incredible craftsmanship. With beautiful lines and an air of grace, this is the ultimate canoe for traditionalists. Since each one is handmade, you can expect to pay a pretty premium of $2,000 or more. If this sounds like the perfect gift, take a look at Spencer Canoe Company in Canada.

3. Back Supports – Sitting in a canoe for a few hours is not easy on the lower back. Back support are curved devices that create or support existing seating in the canoe. Back supports are a must for weekend warriors who only canoe once every month or so. It is hard to enjoy canoeing if your back is killing you! Look for the Crazy Creek brand and expect to pay between $20 and $30.

4. Nomad Paddle Sports Journals – A bit of self-promotion here. Nomad Paddle Sports Journals are waterproof writing journals that let canoers keep notes during and after their trips. Really great for writing down impressions, routes taken, things seen, people met, alternative routes to be tried in the future and so on. You can click the link at the bottom of this article to see the paddle sports journals which cost $8.99.

If you’re buying gifts for a canoeing enthusiast, the above list is a good place to start.

Rick Chapo is with www.nomadjournals.com – makers of writing journals. Paddle sports journals are great canoeing gifts and Christmas gifts for him or her. Visit www.nomadjournaltrips.com to read outdoor adventure articles and stories.

Top 10 Reasons For Visiting A Casino

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 10:25 am

Over the course of a few weeks, I conducted a very brief survey, asking randomly chosen casino visitors one simple question. The question was, “Why did you visit this casino today?” Besides receiving an odd look every now and then, I managed to get a range of different reasons why people visit casinos.

Reason 1: To gamble. Not suprisingly, this was the main reason as you can probably guess by looking around the game tables and slot machines.

Reason 2: To eat and drink. While some singles and couples attended the casino to enjoy a few drinks at the bar, others were more interested in dining out at the casino restaurant.

Reason 3: Entertainment. This is another very common reason for visiting a casino. Whether it’s to see a comedy, magic, singing or dancing show, entertainment is a major factor when it comes to drawing casino visitors.

Reason 4: To socialize. Catching up with friends and socializing was another very common reason for visiting a casino.

Reason 5: Employment. This is not a reason that you’d expect to come up too frequently in people’s minds, but it is nevertheless true. Many people go to a casino because they work there, be it as a dealer, showgirl or a waitress.

Reason 6: Boredom. Many people decided to venture down to the casino because they were feeling bored and did not know where else to go, or what else to do on a Friday or Saturday night.

Reason 7: Someone brought me here. Someone decided to visit the casino and bring their partner, relative, friend or colleague along.

Reason 8: To learn how to play the games. A few people attended the casino to watch and learn how to play some of the casino games.

Reason 9: Romance. Be it the couple who decided to meet at the casino on a date or the single man or woman who is hoping to meet someone interesting, casinos are apparently great venues for meeting interesting new people.

Reason 10: There was no solid reason 10, but a collection of funny, strange and weird answers such as “I needed to use the bathroom” and “Someone owes me money”.

So as you can see, people don’t just visit casinos in order to gamble, but for a variety of interesting reasons.

US Women Soccer Superstars – Victims of Their Own Success

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 1:41 am

With the imminent retirement of long-time veterans Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, and Joy Fawcett from the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, I often find myself thinking how fortunate my family has been to witness their heroics on the field and their positive influence off of it.

But the last game we saw in person stands out as a very different experience from the first game we saw nearly nine years ago.

Last summer, I attended a soccer match between Brazil and the United States Women’s National Team in New Orleans with my teenage daughter, Leah. It was a great game with plenty of action on a beautiful, sunny afternoon, and the U.S. Team won on a Tiffeny Milbrett goal in the 90th minute.

For Leah and I, it was a bittersweet experience.

It was a wonderful “dad and daughter” 42-hour trip from our home in St. Petersburg, Florida to New Orleans and back again. We talked, we laughed, and we listened to each other’s music for each of the 20 hours and 1393 miles in the car. During our short stay, we visited Bourbon Street at night and the Cafe du Monde for breakfast.

But our journey’s focus was to see our soccer heroes in action again. That’s right, I said OUR heroes. Ever since that rainy night in February of 1996 when we first saw our National Team play in Tampa, these outstanding women became my heroes every bit as much as my daughters’ heroes.

I remember being awestruck as I watched them for the first time – their skills, their strength, and their obvious passion for the game. But it was after the game, that I was won over as a dedicated fan.

Earlier that day, Nicole, my younger daughter, asked me if she should bring her Official U.S. Women’s National Team Calendar for autographs. My response – “This is our National Team with the best players in the world. I really doubt you will get any autographs,” I said. “With the rainy weather, you don’t want to ruin your calendar, but bring your autograph book, just in case.”

When the game ended, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Every single player came over to the bleachers where about 1,900 spectators anxiously waited. Not only were they willing to sign autographs, but EACH OF THE PLAYERS HAD THEIR OWN PENS! They talked with the fans, posed for pictures, and most importantly, they really seemed to enjoy doing it. We were immediately hooked.

Since then, we’ve been extremely fortunate to witness some of their most important games: the 1996 Olympic Gold Medal match in Atlanta, the historic 1999 Women’s World Cup Championship game in Los Angeles, and even Mia Hamm’s record-breaking moment for career goals in Orlando in 1999.

We’ve had several encounters with the players, including clinics, autograph sessions, and we even attended a few training sessions in Orlando. Five years ago, while Leah worked as a junior reporter for the St. Petersburg Times, she wrote five features for the weekly X-Press Page for kids.

Along the way, Leah interviewed nearly every team member and even Head Coach Tony DiCicco. Afterwards, at the age of twelve, she wrote a book, Soccer Dreams, to share her adventure, promote the positive values she learned from the team, and to encourage readers to DREAM BIG! It was published last year and has earned very positive customer reviews at Amazon.com.

So our commitment to the Women’s National Team runs deep. As a family, soccer has been a unifying force ever since Leah and Nicole played on the same U-8 team, which I coached. This great sport has provided us with countless memories, as participants and as spectators.

So why, you might wonder, was it bittersweet in New Orleans, to see our team again after more than four years of nothing but televised games? Most of the players were the same, and they all had the same intensity on the field we’ve come to expect.

But this time, the team had already broken through. Ever since the 1999 Women’s World Cup, huge crowds cheer them on wherever they play. In New Orleans that day, they played in front of 15,000 spectators, with a live national television audience and a horde of media members reporting their every move.

They were enjoying all the fruits of their many years of labor. Their dreams of just a few years ago, playing in front of huge crowds, of being recognized, had been realized – repeatedly.

In the beginning, we wanted nothing more than for these players to be given their due, for them to enjoy their success. Now they are living like the superstars they have always been, with fans hanging out in their hotel lobby and screaming for autographs wherever they go. Easy access is probably gone forever. Recognizing and understanding that was an eye-opener.

Imagine being a Bruce Springsteen fan in the early Stone Pony days, before he rocketed to worldwide fame and glory. Perhaps you had a chance to talk to him, maybe even hang out with him. While you knew he was something special and you wanted him to reach the rarefied air of superstardom, once he did, your little secret was out. No more casual chats. No more hanging out. Now you’re lucky to get an overpriced ticket in the nosebleed seats from a scalper.

But of course, like Bruce, try as they might, our National Team can no longer satisfy everyone. They still carry their own pens for autographs after the games, but now there are increased post-game media demands.

While goalkeeper Briana Scurry did the post-game ESPN interview that day in New Orleans, forwards Cindy Parlow and Mia Hamm were the first to be interviewed by the local media, followed by forward Tiffeny Milbrett, defender Brandi Chastain, and Head Coach April Heinrichs. The rest of the players signed autographs, but with 15,000 fans, it was simply impossible to accommodate every fan.

Leah didn’t try to acquire autographs that day. She already has plenty, and on that day, we also had field photo credentials. Not only is autograph-collecting taboo for “objective” journalists, but our memories of the game will be in the photos we captured.

After the game, as the players boarded the bus, I saw one woman approach a team official. She was ranting and raving that she had driven five hours to bring her daughter to the game and that her daughter didn’t get any autographs from the players. The team official explained that the players signed autographs for a half hour INSIDE the stadium, which was true.

Apparently, this woman and her daughter had been positioned in the wrong place and were headed home empty-handed. As she stormed off, she yelled, “BOOO Women’s National Team!! I’ll never come to another game! BOOO!”

I am certain other fans left empty-handed as well or disappointed with just one or two autographs. I am also certain this woman’s experience will be repeated during the current 10-game Fan’s Celebration Tour and at future games as well.

Our National Team players are victims of their own success. After working so hard, for so long, to develop their fan support, it is simply impossible for them to continue to be so accessible and provide autographs to every fan who wants one.

So if you are lucky enough to see our National Team play this year or in any other games in the future, go to enjoy the skill, the intensity and the passion these gifted athletes put into their effort. If you are really lucky, and do get an autograph or two, even better.

But you shouldn’t be disappointed if you don’t get any autographs. And you should forewarn your kids that it might not be possible this time around, which will lessen their disappointment.

Finally, as you’re driving home, take advantage of the opportunity to focus with your kids on the positive values (hard work, commitment, perseverance) these incredible athletes exemplify. Those are lessons we should want all our children to learn.

Spanish Riding School, Vienna

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 12:21 pm

Brief history

Cavalry tactics started to constitute an art around 402BC, but it was not until the sixteenth century that the idea of classical riding took root throughout civilised Europe. During this era, riding enjoyed an equal status with music, art, architecture, literature, philosophy and sculpture, since similar skills and disciplines were required. In some circumstances, it was said that the acquisition of this art could make a man more honourable as he learned from his stallion’s forbearance, courage and physical prowess.

The Imperial Riding School in Vienna was built for teaching and practice of the young nobility and also for the training of the horse in the art of riding and in battle. The work of the School first under royal, then imperial and finally Austrian state patronage then flourished. Today, it is the only riding academy in the world that has been cultivating this art – in its purest form – for over 400 years.

Together with the opera house, the Spanish Riding School became Austria’s jewel in the crown, since no other riding school boasted such a structured continuance of purpose and method. It was looked up to worldwide as the mecca of dressage. Only in Vienna could one be sure of finding the correct techniques and structured training methods of the young horse through to the most venerable adult stallions.

Today, male riders are carefully selected from within Austria itself. If they are found to have sufficient talent and dedication, training will start at sixteen and end at sixty. It takes eight years to train a horse; it takes a lifetime to become a highly competent rider.

The Spanish Riding School occupies a number of buildings on the Michaelerplatz and the Josefsplatz by the Hofburg in central Vienna. Performances take place in the Winter Riding School.

Performance dates are listed on www.viennaticket.com website, where you can order tickets online. Since the 80-minute performances are often sold out weeks or even months in advance, you should reserve seats or standing room as early as possible. Other options include a visit to the Lipizzaner Museum next to the stables and/or take a tour of the federal stud farm in Piber where the horses are bred and raised.

Peter Handel-Mazzetti is the owner of ATT Travel Agents, one of the leading ticket agents in Vienna offering a complete range of tickets for concerts, opera, theatre, musicals as well as sightseeing tours.

Dongle Broadband Freedom

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 8:33 am

Dongle broadband, more commonly referred to as mobile broadband is a type of internet that makes use of…a dongle. This dongle is a USB device that is given to you by the retailer when you sign up to any mobile broadband contract from most of the well known network service providers.

Although this dongle broadband implement is usually free, there can occasionally be a small charge for it but this is not normally very much. A full comparison list, which is kept up to date, can be found at Broadbandgenie.co.uk

This dongle opens up a word of opportunities to you and if you consider yourself to be somewhat lazy, you have the ability to use this internet on your laptop wherever you want.

This could be in bed when you first wake up in the morning, on the couch while watching your favourite television programs. You could even surf the net in the bath if you wanted to, although this isn’t usually advised.

Whether you are looking for a way to prevent lengthy hours in the office by completing work on the train on the way home from work or just for a more relaxing and enjoyable session of internet browsing while you are at home, dongle broadband could just be the right thing for you
