Ski Trips for the Environmentally Conscious Tourist

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 10:29 am

Dozens skiers will soon be searching for their ski gear and dashing away seeking the heaviest snow conditions. And beyond any doubt the results of our carbon footprint will be nearly as far down the list of holiday musts as a turkey sandwich after the Christmas holidays. Just last Christmas, a late snowfall hit the newspaper headlines and tourists were frightened about the flecks of snow dissolving nearly as soon as they settled.

Holiday organisation Chalet 1802, located at the bottom of Mont Blanc in Chamonix ski resort in the Alps, is one of the only independent businesses to go carbon neutral and give snowboarders an environmentally friendly selection whilst booking their skiing holidays. Chalet 1802 owner Genisis said: Last year was a bit of a shock with the warmest winter in 50 years in the French Alps. Famous resorts such as Le Grand-Bornand, Val Thorens and Les Gets has difficulty. It was mild and the snowfall didnt last so much of the early season skiing season in the Alps was uneven. We resolved to become carbon neutral to help preserve the ski resort.

Genisis said: We’re not seeking to dictate to guests but I feel it is all important to give the guests the selection without increasing the price of the vacation. When the guest book with us and visits our skiing chalet they can further off-set their carbon output and we soak up the extra costs. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub – holiday makers want lavishness but not at the expense of the surroundings, so we looked at methods of decreasing the affect of someone driving over here for a ski holiday.”

Chalet 1802 have moreover partnered with organisation Climate Care, who tackles climate change by providing carbon dioxide reductions for people and businesses.
