Online vs Live Play

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 9:36 am

Most people would be willing to concede quickly that there are major differences one must acknowledge when shifting between online poker to live poker. Besides simply the concept that you are not able to see your opponent face to face online, and at the table you are wide open, there are a variety of factors to take into consideration in managing the gap.

First off, the handling of poker chips at a table can be strange to get used to. When playing online poker everything is done for you mostly, while at the table you have to be aware of the bets before you, aware of your opponents’ stacks by the look of them, and so on.

On the other hand, playing online has its own minor finessing, where a careful management of paying attention to the numeric size of your bet to be sure it is entered properly. There is little worse than betting $77 when you meant to bet $7.

Calculating pot odds live can also be a more onerous burden, as you are relying on visual counting versus numbers arrayed for you.

Overall, both games have a different, if similar feel, and it can be nice to have the luxury of going back and forth between the two, even if at the end of the day, the convenience of the 24/7 poker table in your living room online is perhaps the greatest luxury of them all.
